Title: A Woman in the Water
Materials: Cotton embroidered fabric, books, wire, wood, ribbon.
Dimensions: Installation, variable dimensions.
Date: 2019
Concept: I spent the summer of 2018 sitting in an abandoned building on NYC’s Governors Island, reading novels with the word “Water” in the titles. The first book I picked up for this “self imposed island isolation sentence” was by Paula Hawkins titled, Into The Water, which was dark, and structurally similar to her earlier mystery, The Girl on the Train. Many of the works were macabre with murders and suicides, and many women who perished in the waters. All in all I consumed 22 books which all fit into the pockets of the book jacket, which was inspired by a French diving costume from the 1800's
